Conservative Leader Says This Candidate Is America’s Last Hope

Phyllis Schlafly is arguably one of the most important activists for the modern conservative movement in both the 20th and 21st centuries.

Whether you agree with her assessments or not is oftentimes irrelevant, because there is likely a legion of Americans who do. So, when she declares a Republican presidential candidate to be “the last hope for America,” you can be certain people have taken notice.

A lot of people.

Applauding his “fighting spirit,” Schlafly recently made that statement not about U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz—who has been piling up a mountain of conservative endorsements—but about his biggest obstacle to the Republican presidential nomination: Donald Trump. The comments were part of an exclusive interview with World Net Daily that was published Sunday evening.

“He does look like he’s the last hope [for America],” she told WND‘s reporters. “We don’t hear anybody saying what he’s saying. In fact, most of the people who ought to be lining up with him are attacking him. They’re probably jealous of the amount of press coverage he gets. But the reason he gets so much press coverage is the grassroots are fed up with people who are running things, and they do want a change. They do want people to stand up for America. It really resonates when he says he wants to ‘Make America Great Again.'”

Schlafly made her comments following Trump’s response to Congress voting in a $1.1 trillion spending bill late last week. She said Republicans aren’t alone in their outrage over what is happening in Washington; she said Democrats are mad, too.
