Christian Photographer to Host Presidential Candidates at Iowa Art Show

Dave Davidson has become a fixture of American presidential politics, even if some of the candidates might not know his name.

He’s the “Photo Guy.”

With a GoPro camera strapped to his head, usually broadcasting what he’s doing to the rest of the world via Periscope, you can find him at almost every political campaign stop in Iowa. And exuding a caring, Christian attitude—he calls it being the “polite presidential paparazzi”—he’s been granted unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to the candidates.

That access was originally going to be the basis for a book. Then it became the basis for a documentary movie about the behind-the-scenes moments of the presidential campaigns. In the process, Davidson has collected hundreds of thousands of images and days of video of all the candidates on the trail.

Those images are now part of an art show at the Heritage Art Gallery in downtown Des Moines, Iowa. The “Shooting the President Art Show” began on Jan. 11, is slated to continue through the first-in-the-nation Iowa Caucuses on Feb. 1 and will conclude on Thursday, Feb. 19.

Davidson will be entertaining a few of the subjects of his art show this week.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee was scheduled to be at the Heritage Art Gallery at 6 p.m. Central Time on Tuesday. Wednesday, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina was slated to attend, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum was scheduled to stop by at 10 a.m. Friday.
