Trump Names a New Nominee for Key National Security Position

President Donald Trump announced Monday afternoon he has nominated Assistant Commissioner for Intelligence David J. Glawe of U.S. Customs and Border Protection to be the new undersecretary for intelligence and analysis at the Department of Homeland Security.

Glawe served in this position in an acting capacity following the presidential transition. He is a career civil servant, beginning his career as a police officer with the Houston Police Department before becoming a postal inspection service agent, a counter-terrorism special agent with the FBI and as deputy National Intelligence manager for threat finance and transnational organized crime at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence over the course of 24 years.

The Iowa native earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa, and is also a graduate of the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He also is the recipient of the National Intelligence Superior Service Medal for his contributions to the intelligence community and his meritorious actions to the betterment of national security.

As Glawe awaits confirmation by the Senate, the new acting undersecretary for intelligence and analysis at the Department of Homeland Security will be U.S. Coast Guard Assistant Commandant for Intelligence Rear Adm. Robert P. Hayes. The admiral is a 29-year veteran of the Coast Guard. {eoa}
