Pastor to Anti-Trump ‘Snowflakes’: You Need Faith

Through his The Daily Bread Church in Spring, Texas, Pastor Ellis D. Powell aims to spread love and understanding through the use of Bible-based teachings that complement today’s mobile culture.

His message is that the church welcomes anyone seeking the Word of God, no matter the stage of their life’s journey, their age, their skin color or their personal history. In particular, his ministry reaches out to millennials, who according to Pew Research, are much less likely than older populations to pray, attend church regularly or consider religion as an important part of their lives.

Pastor Powell believes that this trend can be reversed.

“I truly believe that by focusing on millennials as individuals, meeting them where they are and more quickly adapting to changes in technology, the church can regain the trust of millennials and earn a place in their hearts,” he said. “We would be failing this generation miserably if we didn’t make a greater effort to bring them into the fold, and our church is committed to doing whatever is necessary to help millennial men and women gain salvation.”

Now, he’s using the recent outcome of the 2016 presidential election to reach out to millennials who have taken to the streets and to social media to protest, oftentimes referred to as “snowflakes” due to their apparent fragile emotional state. He said he wants them to know that they still have a choice, and that choice is faith.

“Millennials have become increasingly disconnected from the church, and the lack of a spiritual foundation and a church home can prove challenging when wrestling with feelings of anger, disappointment, fear and helplessness,” he said. “The bible says that ‘all things work for the good of those who love the Lord.’ When we choose faith and choose to live our lives according to biblical principles, we are better equipped to handle unfavorable outcomes, and remain strong and unwavering in knowing that no matter what, we will be victorious through Christ.”

Powell said he believes that this message will heal the hearts of millennials who have been visibly distraught following the outcome of the presidential election. It will also help them to channel their energy and emotions in a more positive and purposeful manner, he added.
