Call it whatever kind of advice you want, but Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton is adamant that President Donald Trump must immediately shut down the investigation now underway by Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

Monday, following the announcement that former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara was added to the investigative team, Fitton tweeted:

“Special Counsel Mueller’s investigation is out of control. [President Trump’s] DOJ should shut it down.”

He later appeared on Fox News to further discuss why he feels the investigation needs to be shut down completely. In essence, he said, the whole thing has gotten out of hand.

“It’s my count, they have 14, 15 lawyers they have working on this one investigation,” he said. “To investigate what? An employment dispute between [former FBI Director James] Comey and the president? Paul Manafort’s filing of a document, or [Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn]’s filing of a document [under the] Foreign Agent Registration Act? There’s really no prosecution that could be gotten there, since they did file the forms, however late. So, I don’t understand what this investigation is about.”

Fitton noted Comey admitted to Congress he leaked government records to get Mueller appointed as special counsel, creating conflicts of interest in the matter. He said there are constitutional concerns over how the Office of Special Counsel is operating as well.

“In terms of government corruption and constitutionality, there are real concerns about the way the office is operating. We have all these Democrat donors—are there any Trump donors on the team that Mr. Mueller has hired? Plus you have this appointment of a special counsel who has no day-to-day supervision from a constitutional officer, so there’s no accountability … You have to have someone who is accountable to a constitutional officer, and that’s not here in any practical way.”

See the entire exchange in the video clip above.

Wednesday morning, Fitton went back on the attack, however, sharing a link to an article published by The Washington Post that at least seven of the 15 lawyers Mueller has brought on to the special counsel team have donated to Democratic political candidates, five of them to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. In addition to the link, he tweeted:

At least seven of the 15 lawyers Mueller has brought on to the special counsel team have donated to Dem candidates. Partisan, unconstitutional, Comey shenanigans, etc. Shut down Mueller’s anti-[President Trump] investigation.

While there has been a lot of discussion in the liberal mainstream media about the alleged political ramifications of shutting down the investigation, most often leading to efforts to compare the “Russia Narrative” to President Richard Nixon’s handling of the Watergate scandal. But there are also real questions about whether or not the president has the authority under the law to shut down the investigation.

But with a mandate that is quite literally limitless, and no constitutional checks and balances, aren’t Fitton’s concerns warranted? {eoa}
