Orlando mass murderer Omar Mateen walked into the Pulse nightclub fully capable of inflicting enormous amounts of carnage, according to information compiled by Judicial Watch.

The governmental watchdog made a Florida public records request for Mateen’s marksmanship certification scores filed with the state. And according to those records, the Islamist was an excellent marksman, and had been for several years prior to the shooting that made him infamous.

“The documents show that on Sept. 7, 2007, Mateen underwent an initial 28 hours of classroom and firearms range training to receive his Class G statewide Florida firearms license,” Judicial Watch reported in a press release. “He completed that training using a Smith and Wesson .357 caliber revolver, and scored a 231 and 235 on his shooting range tests, out of a possible 240 (or 96 and 98 percent, respectively). His written exam scores were 100, 90, and 90.”

The organization also released the records related to Mateen’s subsequent testing:

  • 2008 — range score of 239
  • 2009 — range score of 238, written exam score of 100
  • 2010 — range score of 237, written exam score of 100
  • 2011 — range scores of 216 and 234, written exam of 100; mid-year, he switched to a 9 mm pistol and had a range score of 225
  • 2012 — no records
  • 2013 — range score of 236, written exam score of 100
  • 2014 — range score of 223

“A Temporary Class ‘G’ License Checklist completed by the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Regional Staff notes that Mateen’s employer, Wackenhut (before the firm changed its name to G4S Security Solutions in 2010), had ‘certified the applicant to be mentally and emotionally stable,'” Judicial Watch reports. “A form submitted to the State of Florida by Wackenhut in 2007 claimed that Mateen had passed a psychologist test administered by Dr. Carol Nudelman, certifying ‘the employee is mentally and emotionally stable,’ which was a requirement for Mateen to receive his security-guard certification.”
