Did the Head Democrat Just Come Unhinged?

DNC Chairman Tom Perez

It’s abundantly clear that the election of President Donald Trump blindsided Democrats in such a way that it has brought out the absolute worst in them, but DNC Chairman Tom Perez’s latest comments about Republicans struck a new low.

During a speech in Newark, N.J., a visibly angry Perez told the New Jersey Working Families Association that Jan. 20 was the worst day in American history, but then said Jan. 21 was far more important—a reference to the Women’s March on Washington that followed Trump’s inauguration—because of “marches all over the world” where people said, “Donald Trump, you don’t stand for our values.” He then asserted the president didn’t actually win the 2016 election, and that he has a “love affair” with Russia.

Perez’s expletive-laced rant also delved into the topic of health care with the head Democrat suggesting, in a vulgar way, that Republicans just don’t care about working-class Americans. He said it was a “successful resistance” by Democrats that led to failure of the American Health Care Act on its first attempt to get passed in the House of Representatives.

The vile manner in which he addressed Republicans drew a sharp response from RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel:

Chairman Perez’s comments are dangerous and undermine our democratic process. Perhaps Mr. Perez needs a lesson on how the Electoral College works, but whether he likes it or not, Donald Trump is our president. He should be ashamed of himself for insulting the millions of Americans who don’t share his liberal vision for our country.

The Democrats are the minority party because of comments like those, and if he thinks this is the way back from the wilderness, he’s sorely mistaken. Mr. Perez should apologize, and Democrats should denounce the rhetoric coming from the new leader of their party. {eoa}
