Is This the Most Ignorant Thing a Pundit Has Ever Said?

Kathleen Parker is a “mostly right-of-center” political columnist for the Washington Post, a consulting faculty member at the Buckley School of Public Speaking and a Pulitzer Prize winner.

After her calls in 2008 that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin step down as the Republican vice presidential candidate, she’s gotten her fair share of complaints from grass-roots conservatives around the country. But it’s highly likely what she said Monday night on CNN will result in a backlash like she’s never seen before.

Here’s the clip, in which she says she doesn’t think Ted Cruz can win in a General Election, and here’s what she said:

“Ted Cruz said something that I found rather astonishing. He said, you know, ‘It’s time for the body of Christ to rise up’ and support him. I don’t know anyone who takes their religion seriously who would think that Jesus should rise from the grave and resurrect Himself for Ted Cruz. I know so many people who are offended by that comment.”

Apparently, reading her Bible—particularly 1 Corinthians—has not been a priority in her life. We won’t break down the theological failings of her statement in full detail, but it was enough to prompt Christianity Today blogger Ed Stetzer to comment: “And this, my friends, explains why we need more religion awareness in the media.”
