Democratic New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, an outspoken voice for women’s rights and one of the more vocal opponents of President Donald Trump, has resigned after The New Yorker magazine released an article that alleged assault charges leveled by four women, Fox News reported Tuesday.

Fox News reported that Schneiderman, who also has worked in partnership with pro-abortion advocates in a massive federal lawsuit that referred to pro-lifers as “terrorists,” announced his resignation late Monday after the release of the report that alleges he was “romantically involved with or had romantic interactions with” four women who also “accused him of physical violence.”

After viewing the published report, New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, in a statement, called for Schneiderman’s resignation and said an investigation is forthcoming:

The New Yorker has published an article on Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, which reports multiple women making serious allegations of assault. No one is above the law, including New York’s top legal officer. I will be asking an appropriate New York district attorney to commence an immediate investigation and proceed as the facts merit. My personal opinion is that, given the damning pattern of facts and corroboration laid out in the article, I do not believe it is possible for Eric Schneiderman to continue to serve as attorney general and, for the good of the office, he should resign.”

Ironically, Fox News reported, Schneiderman has been a “vocal supporter of the #MeToo movement and filed a lawsuit in February against movie producer Harvey Weinstein and Weinstein Co. following an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct, saying the company broke New York law by failing to protect employees from ‘pervasive sexual harassment and discrimination.'”

The New Yorker quotes one of the women, Tanya Selvaratnam, as saying, “This is a man who has staked his entire career, his personal narrative, on being a champion for women publicly. But, he abuses them privately. He needs to be called out.”

Fox News reported that two other women who spoke to The New Yorker on record said Schneiderman “repeatedly hit them during the course of their relationships with him in recent years, and never with their consent.” The New Yorker report said that “neither woman filed a complaint with the police, but both sought medical attention” and told others close to them about the abuse.”

In the abortion case Schneiderman headed up, according to Liberty Counsel, Schneiderman has been working with Mary Lou Greenberg, spokesman for the Revolutionary Communist Party USA, to prosecute 13 pro-life advocates who “peacefully share abortion alternatives with patients on public sidewalks. Liberty Counsel Founder and President Mat Staver termed the case as a “clear effort to bully pro-life citizens into silence.”
