Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain is making a bold promise to overturn Roe V. Wade, the famous case that legalized abortion in 1973.

The candidate, who has recently become the GOP front runner, said Sunday he does not agree with abortion “under any circumstance” in his appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press.

I believe in life at conception and I do not agree with abortion under any circumstance,” Cain told David Gregory.

The former Godfather’s Pizza CEO continued, saying he did not support exceptions in the cases of rape and incest.

Because if you look at rape and incest, the percentage of those instances is so miniscule that there are other options,” Cain noted.

His answer was not as clear, however, when Gregory asked if Cain would support abortion if the mother’s life is at risk.

If it’s the life of the mother, that family is going to have to make that decision,” he replied.

You won’t render a judgment on it?” Gregory asked.

“That family is going to have to make that decision,” repeated Cain.

Gregory also asked Cain if he would seek a constitutional ban for same-sex marriage.

“I wouldn’t seek a constitutional ban for same-sex marriage, but I am pro-traditional marriage,” Cain commented. He continued, saying he would let the states make up their own mind regarding the issue.

Cain has rocketed to the top of the polls recently, standing at 27 percent in the latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll, four points above former front runner Mitt Romney.

Over the last six weeks, Cain has gained 22 points while Texas Gov. Rick Perry has dropped 22 points. Perry is now at 16 percent, but Romney has consistently stood at 23 percent.

How do you think Cain’s stance on abortion will affect his race to the White House?
