This week, Bethlehem College and Seminary Chancellor John Piper, founder of Desiring God and popular reformed theologian, sent out a tweet that has caused quite a conversation on Twitter.

“Of course, Trump should step down as Olasky and Grudem say. So should Hillary,” he wrote. “That is what ‘unqualified’ means. It’s never been a question.”

That tweet has since generated hundreds of responses from Christians of all political persuasions, ranging from sincere thanks for putting another user’s thoughts to words to frustration that evangelicals may once again disengage in the presidential election. It drew responses from supporters of both Trump and Clinton, as well as supporters of third-party candidates Evan McMullin, Darrell Castle and Gary Johnson.

Others called on Piper to further clarify his comment. One wrote:

“True, but help us order our priorities in the voting booth—there is a difference here, one should be prevented more than other.”

Another wrote:

“Agree, but neither one is going to step down, so for voters what should they do? U [sic] said is obvious. Too bad no solution provided.”

As of this writing, the tweet has been liked 2,100 times and retweeted 1,100 times.
