Congressman: ‘Trump Will Take Care of Veterans’

Wednesday, U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson (R-Ohio) penned an op-ed for the Cincinnati Enquirer in which he touted Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s plan to help veterans.

In part, he wrote:

The Obama era has been disastrous for our nation’s veterans. Under their failed leadership, our nation’s finest died waiting to receive medical help.

House and Senate investigators found Veterans Administration facilities failed to provide veterans with the medical care they deserve and were promised. As chairman of the House’s VA Oversight and Investigation Subcommittee in 2011-2012, I saw firsthand many of the most troubling failures of a broken VA. Veterans could not see doctors when they needed help, and when they did, too often it was too little and too late.

Even more disturbing, the VA deliberately covered up its failures so it would appear there was no problem.

The VA secretary compared the fiasco at his agency’s clinics to waiting in line at Disneyland. And Hillary Clinton says the VA’s problems are being overblown, despite what independent Senate investigators found.

Clinton’s refusal to acknowledge the “widespread” and “systemic failures” that exist in our VA is proof these problems would persist, or even get worse, if she is elected president.

As Americans, we need to demand more from our public officials and make certain they serve our heroes as they served us. The Clinton-Obama approach of coddling bureaucrats who fail our veterans is unconscionable and just plain wrong.

Donald Trump has a 10-point plan to restore integrity to the VA system and ensure our veterans receive the care they need, the care they earned and the care they were promised.

The article prefaced Trump’s appearance at a special veterans’ town hall event with Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and moderated by NBC’s Matt Lauer. Several of the questions were from veterans.

Johnson, a retired Air Force Lt. Colonel, represents a key congressional district in the 2016 presidential election.
