Real Life Heroes Smuggle Christians Through Enemy Lines

Some situations in the natural, may simply seem hopeless or illogical. Metro World Child Founder Bill Wilson chooses to trust in the power of God and the Holy Spirit to accomplish in the natural what might appear impossible to many others.

While the U.S. government doesn’t think twice about ignoring Christians who are still left in Afghanistan following the pullout of American military personnel, Wilson chooses to obey the mandate God gave him many years ago to save lives for the kingdom; all of this despite the fact the country is now run by terrorists. He and his organization, based in Brooklyn, New York, have been desperately trying since August to help Christians avoid not only persecution in Afghanistan, but to escape the horror of possible torture and even death at the hands of the Taliban.

At this writing, Wilson and Metro World Child have gotten 328 individuals representing 80 families across the border into Pakistan to safety. And it’s all due to the donations and contributions to Metro World Child from its supporters, in addition to the “beyond-the-call” commitment and compassion of the Metro team working behind the scenes in Pakistan, as well as the Metro U.K. and U.S. and Afghanistan teams on the ground. These are ordinary people who have chosen to do something very extraordinary!

The updates keep coming. Wilson posted on his Facebook page: “Through several different land routes, people were smuggled to the border then brought on motorbikes and fruit trucks to cross at night. People risked it all. We were able to get a former advisor to the Afghan president (whom himself ran away with the money when the fighting started) smuggled out with a car we borrowed … With a sigh of relief, that official thanked us when he got across the border.”

Metro World Child has helped former members of the Metro Sunday School staff, all Afghans, in Kabul escape to Pakistan. The first family of five crossed the border into Pakistan in mid-September. Border guards were bribed, but that’s the reality of this operation, Wilson says.

“You hate to say it, but that’s just how this works,” says Wilson, who spent a great deal of time in 2018 and 2019 training the Sunday School staff in Kabul. “Then we have to relocate them to a third country where they are now going, and they have to start from scratch with a brand-new life. It’s not easy, and it’s not a game. It’s a fight.

“Several of our team got beat up trying to get them through to Pakistan. But now that we have a pattern, we know there is a way to get them out and we’re doing it for the glory of God.”

Unfortunately, only four of the seven families on staff at the Sunday School in Kabul have made it to safety. Wilson explained that 1 one other family is missing, another family was killed by the Taliban, and one other family was too afraid to get to the extraction site. Their location now is unknown.

“None of this has been easy or pretty. It never is.” Wilson says. “But the individuals and families made it out because of you and the Metro teams coming together. This is the classic illustration of the power of partnership. It’s good progress, but the fight isn’t over yet. We’ll keep at it until we feel like there is nothing more we can do, or until the resources run out, or until we are convinced that we’ve done everything we can to help those Christians that have reached out to us.

“We don’t give NO for an answer, and we don’t take NO for an answer. We never have. Please let other folks know we’re still pushing ahead.”

Wilson’s good friend R.T. Kendall pleads for people to help Wilson’s organization with this noble and heroic kingdom cause.

“I feel led to do what I can to support this ministry, but you have to have finances to do this all,” Kendall says. “These are people who love Jesus and nobody seems to care about them. Bill Wilson cares for them.” {eoa}
