Pastor Saeed Abedini: Congress Used Me as a Bargaining Chip

Saeed Abedini, who was freed from Iranian prison at the start of the year, now wonders if his freedom is all a sham. According to recent findings, the U.S. government allegedly paid at least $400 million in ransom to Iran.

“I knew some people involved in the process legitimately cared about me, but I also know the truth,” Abedini says.

In a new opinion piece for FOX News, Abdeini reveals how he was set to testify before Congress about Iranian human rights abuses, but his testimony was canceled last minute.

Rather than disappear into the night, he chose to blast the evils of the country that held him captive, and he poses an important question for the Congress who supposedly lobbied for him:

Now for the rest of my life I will wonder if my freedom has made it financially possible for Iran to abuse and imprison countless others—those like me who reject their radical theology and dictatorial oppression.

If that’s the case, I pray I can make up for it with my own courage and commitment. The Iranian regime is the single greatest financier of terrorism in the world and the foremost abuser of human rights. They kill innocent people for fun. I’ve seen it with my own eyes. Now they can kill with some American money.

For the rest of my life I will stand against the Iranian regime, and for the rest of my life I will oppose anyone who enables their evil.
