Oct. 21 Marks End of World, Camping Insists

Just when you thought it was safe to return to controversial modern discussions of heaven and hell, doomsday evangelist Harold Camping has emerged with yet another promise that the end of the world is looming.

Despite the greater majority of the Christian world—and the non-believing world for that matter—disagreeing with Camping’s failed May 21 Judgment Day prediction, the elderly evangelist is unapologetically trumpeting a new date for the end of the world.

Like many whose prophecies fail, Camping did not admit that he was wrong. In fact, he said that Judgment Day was May 21—in a spiritual sense. Although we didn’t see Jesus crack open the sky and rapture the Church, Camping is nevertheless convinced his prediction was accurate.

“On May 21, this last weekend, this is where the spiritual aspect of it really comes through,” Camping said. “God again brought judgment on the world. We didn’t see any difference but God brought Judgment Day to bear upon the whole world. The whole world is under Judgment Day and it will continue right up until Oct. 21, 2011 and by that time the whole world will be destroyed.”

The founder of Family Radio spoke candidly during a live broadcast, admitting that May 21 was a very difficult time spent wondering what was going on. Then he got his latest revelation: He was interpreting the Bible literally when it was actually a spiritual Judgment Day. Camping vehemently maintains that Jesus came on May 21—and that the whole world will be destroyed on Oct. 21, 2011.

The 89-year-old went on to insist that his past predictions of judgment—which occurred on May 21, 1988 and Sept. 7, 1994, were also fulfilled. Now, Camping’s followers will hold out for another six months, while most of the world continues to mock him and, unfortunately, much of the Church.?
