3 More Haitian Hostages Released, 12 Remain in Captivity

Three more of the original 17 missionaries who were kidnapped in Haiti in mid-October have been released, bringing the total to five that are now free, a Christian group in Ohio announced Monday.

In a statement, Christian Aid Ministries says that the three people were released Sunday in Haiti and are “safe and seem to be in good spirits.” On Nov. 21, the organization announced that two of the hostages had been freed from the Haitian terrorist gang 400 Mowozo. There were 12 adults and five children in the original group, including 16 Americans and one Canadian.

The hostages included an infant, a 3-year-old and a 6-year-old as well as two teenagers.

The leader of the 400 Mowozo gang had threated to kill the captives unless his demands of $1 million ransom per person were met.

“We are thankful to God that three more hostages were released last night,” the statement from Christian Aid Ministries, an Anabaptist mission organization based in Berlin, Ohio, read. “As with the previous release, we are not able to provide the names of the people released, the circumstances of the release, or any other details.

Christian Aid Ministries reiterated its request for supporters to devote Monday through Wednesday as days of prayer and fasting to “intercede for those who are still being held as well as those who have been released.” {eoa}
