An effort to bring Christian revival to the U.S. border has shattered goals and expectations, with around 9,000 people having “an experience with the Lord” during prayer and tent meetings in late March.

Pastor Tony Suarez, creator of Revival on the Border, told CBN News his initial goal was for 5,000 people to encounter God through nightly revival meetings held from March 21-29 in El Paso and McAllen, Texas.

Suarez’s impact figures could increase as he and his team are “still tallying numbers,” with nearly 70 water baptisms on the books.

The massive gatherings, which were held daily, were quite large, with 700 people in attendance each night in McAllen.

“Still processing all that God did!” he said. “Between both tent revivals, the prayer army caravan, and street evangelism teams that went out, we were able to reach close to 9,000 people with the Gospel!”

One of the tent revivals was so well-attended that Suarez’s team needed to bring in 200 extra seats to accommodate people on the first night alone. Among the most surprising elements of the experience, he said, was the situation he and others found on the ground.

“Given the national headlines, we assumed we were headed into a warzone, and found it to be quite the opposite,” Suarez said. “That certainly is not meant to downplay the obvious crisis at the border, but to say there was a strong witness of the peace of God.”

Suarez said his team was “overwhelmed at the receptiveness of the Border Patrol” as they made their way through border cities and towns to pray. In fact, some patrol officers openly asked the Revival on the Border team to pray for them.

“We were very impressed by the strong faith of the border patrol agents,” Suarez said.{eoa}
