It’s not a big church. It’s not a new church. It’s not a really old church, either. But Agape Assembly of God (AG) in Waterloo, Ind., has become a praying church—with signs and wonders following.

Pastor Tom “Nedd” Neddersen with his wife, Kim, both retirees, have pastored Agape Assembly of God in Waterloo for more than seven years. The Neddersens had spent the previous 10 years as bivocational ministers in California.

Recently, a hospital stay spurred the Neddersen’s to lead their small church of about 40 members into spiritual battle through prayer and fasting.

“Back in August, we as a church started praying for the sick and our nation,” Neddersen says. “I had just come out of the hospital and decided that I was sick and tired of being sick and tired.”

Neddersen contacted a local AG evangelist, Tyron Moore, to come and help him to pray over the church. He also called the church to prayer and fasting starting Sept. 1 to Jan. 1. Since Sept. 1, the power of the Holy Spirit has been more than evident.

“We had a lady that was in third-stage cancer completely healed,” Neddersen says matter-of-factly. “A man that could not hear out of his right ear started hearing again. Moore, the evangelist who prayed over the church, was healed of diabetes and then a man went in for surgery for a stone in his bladder and the doctor was amazed because the stone was gone!”

Neddersen says that there have been many more signs and wonders happening at their small church, crediting the biblical disciplines of prayer and fasting as the key to seeing God work in the church. He also believes the new 7:14 Prayer Movement is coming at the right time—and encourages other churches to take up the call to prayer.

“I know the Holy Spirit is moving on our church, but more important I believe this is a start to a healing in our nation and the church,” Neddersen says. “I believe the 7:14 project is great, but it can go even further—we need healing in our government and our churches, so the church needs to stand up and proclaim the name of Jesus our Lord and Savior from every pulpit in the country.”

General Secretary Jim Bradford echoes Neddersen’s belief. “Each church needs to take personal ownership of prayer and fasting,” he says. “It’s not just for ‘some other’ church; it’s a biblical discipline all churches should pursue if they desire to see the undeniable power of the Holy Spirit evident within and through them.”
