Obedience Gives Metro World Child Ministry a Kingdom Platform in New York City Reopening

There is a lot to be said about longsuffering for Jesus and obedience to God’s Word. Pastor Bill Wilson, founder of Metro World Child in Brooklyn, New York, says it’s the main reason he and his organization are still around and have found the favor of men for the past 40 years.

And, he says, it’s the reason the New York City Police Department invited Wilson and Metro World Child to hold a Sunday school class Wednesday afternoon, June 9, in Times Square. The event is part of the reopening of New York City since the COVID-19 lockdown began in early 2020.

“I truly believe that it’s our credibility, our longevity and our faithfulness to God for all this time that has helped us win people over here,” Wilson says. “We’ve been around a long time, and the city knows it. They’ve worked with us in so many ways, and we’ve had a unique platform.

“It’s because we’ve stayed extremely actively with things like food distribution centers that have helped feed a lot of hungry people over the years,” he says. “Our Sunday school has raised children up to become leaders—pastors and youth pastors all over the world. It’s a factor of faithfulness, and it speaks volumes.”

Wilson admits he was a bit surprised that the city has allowed a Christian gathering like the one they have put together as a part of the city’s official reopening. But considering what Metro World Child has done for New York, he says, it should come as no surprise at all.

Metro World Child reaches 200,000 inner-city children and their families in New York and around the world with humanitarian aid. Its mission is to reach children worldwide with the message of the gospel and to lead them into their own personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

That includes weekly Sunday school programs and summer camps, weekly home and child sponsorships, and providing for physical needs including school supplies, clothing, food and clean water.

Wilson says actions speaks louder than words, especially when it comes to obeying Christ and the kingdom mission he was handed more than four decades ago.

“Talk is cheap. You have to put up or shut up with Jesus,” Wilson says. “If His name is lifted up, then men are drawn unto Him. We’ve been faithful, and not just in New York, but all over the world. But I know this city has benefited from what Jesus has done through us, and we are extremely humbled to serve Him and see what great things He is doing.”

A new facet of Metro World Child is Nehemiah Boot Camp, which is designed to train the people of God with the sword in one hand and a shovel in the other (Neh. 4:7). The Nehemiah Bootcamp, a four-month intensive training that will equip individuals to communicate the Word of God effectively as Metro takes the gospel to the street, will begin on Aug. 24 and end Dec. 19. You can sign up for the four-month training program here. {eoa}
