NHCLC Wages Education War for Hispanic Students

The National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference is leading the battle to lower the Hispanic student drop-out rate.  

Dedicated to seeing that all Latino Youth in America and around the world further their education, the NHCLC is now accepting applications for its 2012-2013 scholarships. Each year, the organization awards a scholarship to students who have excelled academically and are committed to advancing their education.

This year each recipient will receive up to $5,000 in scholarship money at each one of the NHCLC’s eight partnering schools—Cedarville University, Cedarville, Ohio; Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, South Hamilton, Mass.; Indiana Wesleyan, Marion, Ind.; Liberty University, Lynchburg, Va.; Oral Roberts University, Tulsa, Okla.; Regent University, Virginia Beach, Va.; Vanguard University, Costa Mesa, Calif., and William Jessup University, Rockland, Calif.

Dr. Gus Reyes, Director of Hispanic Education Initiative/Affinity Ministries for the Baptist General Convention of Texas and NHCLC Board Member said, “As director of the NHCLC Education Directive, I am thankful to participating universities for collaborating in order to encourage Hispanic students to Finish-the-Race toward educational attainment,” said Dr. Gus Reyes, Director of Hispanic Education Initiative/Affinity Ministries for the Baptist General Convention of Texas and NHCLC Board Member. “Future scholarship recipients represent emerging leaders for the Hispanic faith community who will make lasting contributions.”

To qualify for the NHCLC student scholarships, a student must be enrolled in one of the stated partnering college or universities, demonstrate a desire and intent to fulfill a leadership role in his or her chosen field of study and must be a first-time NHCLC scholarship recipient. In addition, the student must be Latino, have GPA of 3.0 or higher, fulfill application requirements and must profess to be a born again Christian and live according to a Biblical lifestyle.

Sll required documents, including official transcripts and letters of recommendation, must be received by the scholarship committee no later than 5 p.m. Pacific time on July 31. Submissions should be mailed to the NHCLC Scholarship Committee, P.O. Box 293389, Sacramento, Calif., 95829.
