The Children’s Home in Amarillo, Texas, received a mysterious phone call earlier this week, telling them to inspect their nativity.

Lo and behold under their tiny Savior, the receptionist found a gift: a $50,000 check left by an anonymous donor.

“A gift like this is inspiring and when our kids see generosity like this it inspires them to give back and serve others,” says The Children’s Home President Darrin Murphy. “A gift such as this helps us to be able to continue providing the basic needs for our kids and allows them to have enriched lives and futures.”

The charity is located at 3400 Bowie Street, prompting some news outlets to call it “The Miracle on 34th,” as a nod to the Christmas classic.

According to their website, the organization serves the needs of children who would otherwise suffer or go without. They work with children ages 5 into young adulthood who come to us from their families, foster care or the judicial system.

“Each of our homes utilizes proven age-appropriate methods to teach the kids skills necessary for a successful life. From table manners, to job interviewing, to building healthy relationships, these programs support our mission,” the website reads. “However, the heart of each home and the campus is the consistent love and compassion provided by our Family Teaching couples, the Assistants and every other adult on campus as they seek to bring up these children – challenging them and providing them with a variety of opportunities so that they might grown into well-rounded, Christ-centered individuals.”

The Children’s Home offers academic services, therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists and mental health counselors for their children and teens.

“There’s a huge cost that goes with trying to provide the opportunity for kids that we do, and so (the donation) helps us be able to focus on kids and not focus on being worried about being able to do that for kids,” Murphy says.
