MercyMe Expresses Heartache About Fatal Crash

MercyMe was scheduled to perform Monday night in Wisconsin after canceling Saturday’s show in St. Louis because of a fatal accident involving the band’s tour bus, the Associated Press (AP) reported.

MercyMe was leaving Fort Wayne, Ind., where they had performed Friday, when a car carrying several teenagers cut in front of their bus, causing the collision. The wreck killed all three of the teens in the car and the pregnant driver’s unborn baby.

The group suffered what band members described as “minor bumps and bruises” in the crash. “MercyMe would like to express their incredible heartache over this horrible accident,” said the band on its Web site, adding that they’re “praying for the families of all who this will affect, and are asking others to please pray as well.”

After learning that the driver of the car died on Wednesday after being hospitalized since the accident, the band members said they “continue to pray and ask your prayers for everyone affected by this accident, that God would bring healing, comfort, peace and understanding at a time when they are desperately needed.
