Justin Bieber hit a photographer with his car while leaving City Church Wednesday night.

“At 9:24 local time we received a radio call about a vehicle-pedestrian collision on Hamilton Drive,” Sergeant Matthew Stout of the Beverly Hills Police Department says. “Justin Bieber remained on scene, cooperated with officers and was released.”

Bieber was attending the Beverly Hills campus of City Church in the Saban Theater when he was swarmed by paparazzi. Judah Smith pastors the multiple-campus City Church.

“He tried to scare away the paparazzi but as he neared the group, he accidentally hit one of the photographers who was in his path,” a source tells People.

“He (Bieber) got out, he was compassionate. He’s a good kid. Accidents happen,” the photographer said in a video posted on celebrity website TMZ. “I think the truck was a little bit too big for him though because there’s no way he could see over the front. It was the slope it was on,” the photographer said in his video message.

The accident comes a few days after the pop star cancelled the remainder of his “Purpose” tour, citing a need for rest. The media, however, blamed the cancellation on Jesus, and rumors swirled Bieber was planting a church.

Bieber denied his faith played a role in the cancellation.
