In Throes of ‘Snowpocalypse,’ Ministries Offer Faith-Based Support

What is being called the Snowpocalypse of 2021 continues as another winter storm slams into the eastern U.S. Following more than a week of bitter cold and snow, some Western and Southern states are still digging their way out, and more than a half-million people in Texas are still waiting for their power to be restored.

But as freezing conditions continue, various ministries have stepped up to help. Charisma News highlights a few of these here along with ways you can come alongside them with donations to support those most in need.

Today, Feb. 18, Convoy of Hope deployed several tractor trailers full of water and emergency relief supplies to help affected communities around Dallas and Houston. The trucks left for Texas from Convoy’s World Distribution Center in Springfield, Missouri, early this morning.

“Our partnerships with local churches and organizations are essential to our disaster relief efforts,” said Nick Wiersma, vice president of disaster services for Convoy of Hope. “They enable us to respond quickly in times of crisis, and provide aid to those who desperately need it.” Convoy of Hope encourages those who can help by donating to this vital cause to visit this link at convoyofhope.org.

The Salvation Army is also offering assistance in various locations to assist victims of the winter storm, posting on Twitter that it is “opening warming stations in communities where temperatures have reached dangerous lows” and encouraging those who are able to give at SalvationArmyUSA.org.

Faith-based nonprofit Mercy Chefs USA, which serves “professionally prepared meals for victims, volunteers and first responders in national emergencies and natural disasters,” also deployed a team to Texas today, posting on Twitter that “The need is unbelievable, and we will do everything we can to help” as they asked for prayer:

And Houston-based Somebody Cares demonstrated the heart of serving others as its president, Doug Stringer, found his own home and ministry without power this week but worked to supply area residents with needed relief information. Stringer posted the following video on the ministry’s Facebook page today, offering safety precautions to those who might be using their cars to keep warm or need to turn off the water to their home because of freezing conditions as temperatures drop again tonight:

Fire Places when power off and and Water Valves if pipes break- Most homes should have a Shut off Valve either on the…
