Gwendolyn Shaw, known by many as “Sister Gwen,” died at her home in Jasper, Ark., on Sunday, Jan. 13. She was 88 years old.

From Langham, Saskatchewan, she was born as Gwendolyn Ruth Bergman. She gave her life the Lord when she was 17 years old.

Founder and president of End-Time Handmaidens and Servants International, Shaw started ministering in China in 1947 when she was just 23, after graduating from a Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada Bible school.

The author of more than 50 books, Shaw has served God in about 155 nations, “with Holy Ghost fire, signs and wonders following her trail,” the End-Time Handmaidens and Servants’ website said. In 1988 she founded the End-Time Handmaidens and Servants International School of Ministry.

Shaw’s life will be celebrated at Faith Assembly of God in Harrison, Ark., at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 22. Memorial donations to the missions program of the End-Time Handmaidens Inc. (P.O. Box 447, Jasper, Ark. 72641) may be made in lieu of flowers. You may also click here to make your donation (mention, “In memory of Sister Gwen”).

Shaw was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. James von Doornum Shaw (“Papa Jim”) and two brothers. She is survived by three sons, 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
