Critics rallied online to call out Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. over his photo with presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump.
Trump stands center between Falwell and his wife. Both men flash a thumb’s up. The instigator for the online vitriol? A Playboy cover displayed just to the right of Becki Falwell’s head.
Conservatives were quick to notice. Even satire sites commented, but Falwell’s feathers were none too ruffled.
“Honored for same hypocrites who accused Jesus of being a friend of publicans and sinners to be targeting me over a decades old mag cover! TY.”
Yet the flak continues.
“Jesus calls sinners to repentance. Has Trump repented yet? Did he ‘tickle you ears’ & promise you the world?” one user tweeted.
Others pointed to Trump’s infamous speech where he said he’d never asked for forgiveness.
But Falwell continues his support. Indeed, he was just named to Trump’s Faith Advisory committee with several Pentecostal leaders, including Kenneth and Gloria Copeland, Tony Suarez and Jentezen Franklin.
