After the tragic shooting death of a 37-year-old worship leader last week, Creflo Dollar is making a plea to his megachurch to donate $234,000 to the victim’s family.

Dollar called Greg McDowell, who was shot during a Bible study at World Changers Church’s College Park, Ga., campus last Wednesday, a hero.

“If those bullets hadn’t been trained on him, there would’ve been more people that would’ve died,” the Atlanta Journal-Constitution quoted Dollar as saying.

Floyd Palmer, a 52-year-old former church worker, has been charged with McDowell’s murder. He fired six shots at McDowell while he was praying.

“The goal is $234,000,” Dollar said in a plea to his church. “We want to completely eradicate all debts in their lives … house, cars, everything. Let’s now show the world the power of a megachurch.”

World Changers Church set up a special fund at the bank for McDowell’s family.

“It’s enough to have somebody torn away from you,” Dollar said. “And at the same time have to be worried about all of the debts.”
