Che Ahn Hands Over HRock Church to New Pastor

Ché Ahn has handed the reigns of HRock Church in Pasadena, California, to his son and daughter in-law. Ahn made the transition on Jan. 17, his 60th birthday.

Founded in 1994, HRock Church describes itself as a family-oriented community where people can enjoy the abundance that God has for them in everyday life. HRock Church is “passionate about serving our local community and bringing God’s transformational love everywhere we go—both at home and across the globe.”

Ahn told me the transition ceremony was both significant and historic for him. Ahn picked the date of his 60th birthday for the transition two years ago. His son Gabe has served as HRock’s executive pastor since 2007.

“Bob Jones prophesied over Gabe when he was 12 that he would function in all five-fold ministry gifts—and that is very true,” Ahn told me. “He is very apostolic, very prophetic, very pastoral, et cetera. We knew that we were going to hand the church over so I could focus more on our apostolic network. I’m traveling so much. I couldn’t do both.”

After previously being part of the Vineyard Movement, the Lord spoke to Ché through a word from Cindy Jacobs in 1995 that he was to “father” a new movement—a “network of networks” to train and raise up spiritual children who would reach every continent. He founded Harvest International Ministries out of that prophetic word.

Ahn is also the International Chancellor of Wagner Leadership Institute. With a Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary, he travels the world declaring God’s Word, releasing His healing power and leading many to know Jesus. He has written more than a dozen successful books.

Ahn told me God spoke to him in 2007 about Gabe becoming his successor, but he was waiting for the right time to pass the baton. Part of the timing had to do with Gabe getting married. As a family-oriented church, Ahn wanted his son to marry first and lead the congregation as a couple.

“We are not going anywhere. Sue and I are still the spiritual parents of this house. We are going to be based here,” Ahn says. “I still lead the board meetings and I will still preach when I am in town. But as far as the day-to-day operation of the church, Gabe and his wife, Monica, are going to take over as the new senior pastors.”
