Philip “Flip” Benham, the father of famous brothers David and Jason Benham, was arrested last weekend while protesting outside an abortion clinic.

He was charged with communicating threats, but says the charges are bogus.

A clinic volunteer said Benham approached her and “menacingly” and “repeatedly” told her, “You are dead,” and was fearing the threat would be carried out.

Benham says he actually told her that she was “dead in her sins.”

“We care about choice. We know that God has called all of us to make a choice. And only we have that choice. We want to help them,” Benham said.

Benham was not jailed after the arrest.

Benham is apparently a frequenter of the clinic, offering to assist women with their unwanted pregnancies.

“From Jan. 1 to Jan. 24, 70 women have chosen life,” Benham said. “We’re offering life for them and help for them.”
