AG’s Wood Urges Christians to Get Registered to Vote

Recent polling information from Champion the Vote shows only half of the 60 million Christians in the United States vote in any given election.

That’s why George O. Wood, General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, is pointing out biblical principles showing the importance of Christians participating in the government process.

Through a new website, ag.org/top/vote, Wood and the AG are helping individuals register to vote and engage in prayer prior to the election.

“God has blessed our nation with unprecedented freedom and opportunity, and our nation faces unprecedented crises. Let’s not misuse our freedom by failing to vote on Election Day. Jesus calls the church to be salt and light in the world. One of the ways we can do that is by voting,” Wood says.

“Based on His teachings and example, if Jesus were an American citizen, it would be safe to say that He would register to vote, encourage others to do the same, and then vote for the candidates who most closely represent His values.”

On Sunday, Sept. 30, Assemblies of God launched the “7:14 Prayer Initiative,” based on 2 Chronicles 7:14: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and heal their land” (NIV).

Wood urged Christians to join him for a few minutes in praying every day until Election Day at 7:14 in the morning and evening, as well as the noon hour every Friday until Nov. 6.
