Former NFL star Aaron Hernandez reportedly had “John 3:16” scrawled across his forehead and red marks on his hands and feet when he allegedly committed suicide.

Fox reporter claims the words were written in blood, and Hernandez had an open Bible in his cell as well. Other reports say the words were in red marker, not blood, as initially reported.

John 3:16 proclaims, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.”

Hernandez hanged himself Wednesday after being found not guilty of murdering two people.

Other reports say investigators believe Hernandez may have smoked synthetic marijuana before his apparent suicide.

A prison spokesman told the Boston Globe that Hernandez had not been on a suicide watch. That spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment on that issue, Reuters reported.

Hernandez was arrested in 2013 for the murder of Odin Lloyd in an industrial park near his North Attleborough, Massachusetts, home. The following year, he was charged with gunning down two men from the Cape Verde Islands outside a Boston nightclub, the Reuters report continued. {eoa}
