250 Believers Back Amy Coney Barrett During Senate Hearings

On the third day of Amy Coney Barrett’s hearings in the Senate, a large group of believers who came from throughout the United States showed up in front of the Hart Senate Office Building. They carried large signs proclaiming “Hope” to encourage her as she continued her testimony.

“We came from Florida to pray for Amy and to be here to support her in this time when he needs the prayers of believers,” said Sofia Medina-Hickle of the effort.

Peggy Nienaber, of Faith & Liberty, a Christian outreach to top-level government officials, said, “We are here to pray for Amy and her family as well as for the proceedings, that God will be with her, guide her and protect her. We were all here during previous hearings and believe that prayer is critical during such events.”

Rev. Greg Cox, also of Faith & Liberty, said, “It is critical to have Amy Barrett on the Supreme Court, as she is an originalist in the model of Justice Antonin Scalia and will make decisions based upon what the Constitution actually says rather than what she would like it to say. Her opinions will reflect law and precedent rather than her own political preferences.”

Cox described some responses to the group’s visible support the first two days.

“We had some rather vocal groups that showed up the first two days to oppose us, and we felt that sense of spiritual warfare. But with a wonderful team of over 100 students from Liberty University as well as other schools in the area, we are well prepared. As we prayed and worshipped, the opposition groups left the area. Our goal was simple: to have Amy Barrett’s back in prayer.”

A Students for Life representative encouraged other young people to be involved. As a young female, she said she regularly chooses to attend such events to pray and to encourage. She’s impressed by Barrett and describes her as an accomplished professional woman with seven children, an adoring husband, two adopted children from Haiti and one special needs child, yet “so kind, gracious and nice.”

“She’s a role model for me and so many other young Christian women,” she added.

The hearings are expected to last through today, followed by a vote by the Senate Judiciary Committee, which is expected by next Thursday.

If the excitement of the group of believers assembled outside the Dirksen offices is any indication, Barrett is already having a profound effect, even before being confirmed.

In her opening speech, Judge Barrett appeared to personally thank the group assembled outside as well as all believers praying for her hearings with the words, “I believe in the power of prayer, and it has been uplifting to hear that so many people are praying for me.”

Faith & Liberty Vice President Peggy Nienaber said “We are not here to engage in any political activities. We are not protesting, demonstrating or anything like that. We are here to pray for Amy, to pray for her hearings and to stand in the gap for her at this time.”

During the hearings, U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., said, “It should not be a bad thing that a Catholic, Christian, pro-life woman is being confirmed for Supreme Court Justice, and it is my honor to vote to confirm you.”

Bestselling author of God, Trump and COVID-19 Stephen Strang wrote in God, Trump and the 2020 Election that “The vile hatred that came out in 1991 against Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas was spiritual warfare. The same thing happened again with Brett Kavanaugh nomination in 2018. And there are many other examples. That’s why Christians pray ‘against’ such things.”

“The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water; He turns it to any place He will” (Prov. 21:1).

May the nearly 250 who gathered in joy and support remind all: President Donald J. Trump appointed this third such justice to the Supreme Court to restore America to its original purpose and dedication to the Lord Jesus Christ.

But in just 19 days, unless a miracle takes place, it will all end, and the godless forces that have paralyzed cities throughout the country will destroy America. The 59 million believers who failed to vote in 2016 must get out and vote. {eoa}
