When This Pastor Hit Rock Bottom, Here’s What Holy Spirit Told Him to Do

In October 2011, Dennis Funderburg hit rock bottom in a passionless relationship with Christ. He hadn’t pursued Jesus to the fullest, he felt empty and “life was crumbling.”

But then the Holy Spirit took over and prompted Funderburg to read God’s Word. In the process, he discovered that Jesus is still the Jesus of the Bible, and he encountered Christ in all of His fullness, beauty and splendor.

A pastor and evangelist at New Destination Church in Breckenridge, Texas, Funderburg has developed a heart for those with similar experiences of emptiness, hopelessness and despair. He wants others to know that Jesus is still the answer, which is the foundation of his new Charisma Podcast Network podcast, “Jesus is Still Jesus.”

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forevermore,” Funderburg told Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of “Greenelines” on the Charisma Podcast Network. “He’s the same Jesus that we read about in the Bible.

“He hasn’t changed a bit. He still loves me as He did when He went to the cross. And He still loves you. That said, we know we can trust in His promises from the Bible. We can be exactly who He calls us to be, which is more than a conqueror.

“It’s the simplicity of the gospel. In that, for me, is three things: humility, stillness and adoration. Humble yourself before God and realize what He has done for you. Move into a place of stillness where it’s just you and Him, and where all of the anxieties, all the hurts, all the fears and doubts you have, become very quiet. Then move into a place of adoration, where you can receive things like wisdom, knowledge, understanding and clarity. Then you can face the day and be the husband and the dad He has called you to be. You can engage with the corporate body, the church, to be the vessel God has called you to be.”
