How People Who Follow Astrology Are Finding the Gospel in the Stars

“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament shows His handiwork” (Ps. 19:1).

That’s one of the Scriptures Pastor Joe Amaral shares when he travels to speak at churches and conferences around the world. The renowned Bible teacher and pastor uses signs of the zodiac, or the constellations, for visual aids. And his unorthodox presentation draws a huge crowd, including atheists and astrologists.

Not that he believes in astrology, far from it. But Amaral has long believed that the gospel is written in the stars.

“When I put stuff like [the zodiac and constellations] up on the screen, people begin to ask, ‘Who is this guy? What is he doing here?’ Amaral told Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of “Greenelines” on the Charisma Podcast Network. “But I always tell people to stay with me. When I start naming constellations from the Bible, they’re like, ‘Well, I knew it was there, but I never made the connection.’

“It’s a shock to them when they see that the oldest book in the Bible actually mentions constellations and planets by name. Jesus talks about the stars. By the end of the day, they’re like, ‘God really did put His story in the stars.’

“Many people don’t see it. And when they do see it, the story has been so tainted by the enemy in taking the focus off the constellations as they point to Christ. What the enemy does is he’s taken the constellations and points them back to us. Somehow, we look for the meaning and direction for our own lives. That’s why we have these horoscopes. But, that’s not what God designed them [the constellations] for. That was never his intent. The enemy will quickly distort things because he doesn’t want the focus to be on the Savior.”
