Has God Called You to the Mountain of Politics? Here’s the Training You Need to Climb It

“How many people in your congregation have had the urge of the Holy Spirit to get involved in politics?”

That’s the question Aamon Ross asked a pastor a few months ago, he tells Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of the Greenelines podcast on the Charisma Podcast Network. The answer to his question—from the people, not the pastor—further spurred him in his efforts to equip believers for active participation in politics.

“I have no idea,” the pastor told him.

“So why don’t you just go out there and ask them, say, ‘From 8 years old until today, how many of you have ever thought about how to discern or know that you’re called to go into this space?'” Ross suggested his pastor friend ask.

The pastor went out on the platform and asked that question, Ross says, “And 40% of his church raised their hands.”

“I had no idea,” the pastor told him afterward.

“Most of what I’m finding across the country is that there are so many believers who want to take a leadership role in their community, whether it is school board, or city council, or county commission or state representative, and if they just had a little encouragement from the shepherds, right from the pastors, they would be so inspired to take that next step and say yes,” Ross explains.

Ross designed his ministry, Kingdom in Politics, to provide encouragement as well as practical, proven help for those God has called to scale the mountain of politics. After helping his longtime friend Kevin Stitt win his race as governor of Oklahoma—with neither Ross nor Stitt having previous political experience—God gave this successful businessman a burden to help other believers called to politics fulfill God’s destiny for their lives.

“All you have to do is turn on the television or look at social media that is to see how divided and devastated our country is right now,” Ross says. “And it really goes back 60 years when the church made an active decision to never do anything or impact or influence politics. And that’s where we’re at today; we’re reaping what we’ve sown into this space.”
