The Holy Spirit Wants to Pull You Away From the Crowd

We are known by the company we keep.

Perhaps that’s why Jesus exhorted us to “come out from among them.”

Leaders have a great burden to guard their circle of influence. The most damaging crowd for a leader to walk with is one that would lower the leader’s aspirations for the team.

It is axiomatic that the larger the crowd, the more average it will become. An effective leader doesn’t hear the voice of the crowd. She focuses on the still, small voice which demands a narrow path.

The Holy Spirit will compel us to come up higher. There is little comfort in yesterday’s achievements. Jesus asked His disciples, “Have you no compassion?” Some leaders would have allowed the team a day to rest in the satisfaction of a past few days of powerful ministry.

But Jesus saw people who needed to be fed. Servant-hearted leaders are driven by compassion.

I desire that my circle of influence would be chaired by the Holy Spirit and attended by those who seek daily excellence. I say to my circle, “don’t let me be a settler.”

Holy Spirit, lead me to higher ground.

I like the company up there.

Today’s Scripture

“Then Jesus called His disciples to Him and said, ‘I have compassion on the crowd, because they have remained with Me now for three days and have nothing to eat. I will not send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way.'” (Matt. 15:32).
