Why Gunshots Couldn’t Interrupt Holy Spirit’s Healing Miracles at This Makeshift Altar Call

Is God calling you to something radical, and if so, what’s holding you back? No amount of money or things will ever make you feel good enough. But following the call of Jesus on your life will bring about positive change, evangelist Chris Mikkelson explains.

“I said, ‘You know what, there’s a whole world of people out there that need Jesus, I might as well just go preach to all of them.’ So we used to go down to the train station in Dallas, Texas, in the middle of the ‘hood. I mean, in the worst ‘hood in the state of Texas. We’d go stand in the middle of the train station, and there’d be 20 or 30 people, and I’d stand on a stepstool and for five minutes, I began to preach the gospel to them.

“They would yell; we would hear gunshots go off in the background, sometimes in the middle of the night, and we’d be preaching. Some people would yell. I’d make the altar call for salvation, and people would start getting saved. People would start getting healed. We’re praying for the sick down in the train station. Miracles started happening. We weren’t doing it so that we could get a fame or fortune. We were doing it because we wanted to see people get saved.”

The cost of following Jesus is great—you’ll possibly lose friends and your lifestyle, Mikkelson emphasizes on the “Salvation Today” podcast on the Charisma Podcast Network. We have to ask ourselves if our motivation in life is anything other than bringing Jesus glory.

“We can’t be halfway—we’re either in or out; we’re either hot or cold. You’re either on fire or you’re not at all, in Jesus’ name. And so God is not calling us to just be halfway, but He’s calling us to go for Him. He’s calling us to leave everything and follow Him. Even if it means leaving houses or lands, or brothers or sisters or friends or drugs or alcohol, we’ve got to leave everything and follow Jesus.”
