What The Holy Spirit Is Teaching ORU’s Brian Nhira on ‘The Voice’

Fans of Oral Roberts University’s Brian Nhira held their breaths in angst as Pharrell let the missionary kid go on last night’s episode.

But relief came swiftly when Nhira was nabbed by Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine, who also coached Lee University’s Jordan Smith to victory last season.

Through the battle rounds and Nhira’s blind audition, the Holy Spirit has taught Nhira little nuggets of wisdom.

“I think first and foremost, it’s this: It’s that God is calling us into every place, every place in the world,” Nhira, the son of traveling ministers, says.

“Oftentimes, people in the church get a little stuck in the circle and the bubble of the church and correspond to people who of are the same beliefs. I’ve had the most beautiful time getting to know people who may not believe the same things I do.

“One of the biggest things (I’ve learned is) if you don’t love people, then you are completely missing the point of being a Christian,” Nhira says.

While Christians flood Nhira with support, others, like new coach Levine, appear to be inspired by Nhira’s open love for Jesus.

“I picked Adam because after my blind audition of Jesus Loves Me, I remember him really regretting not turning around and that picture of him pressing his button over and over again really stuck in my mind.”

You can see The Voice on Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC.
