Phil Robertson: Right Wing Extremist or Modern-Day Prophet?

Phil Robertson isn’t trying to make news headlines—and he’s not trying to stir the pot. But he is determined to stand for truth no matter what the cost.

The Duck Dynasty clan patriarch didn’t hesitate to speak out for traditional marriage at the Rock the South festival in Cullman, Alabama on Saturday.

The 68-year-old made his mind known about teen brides, Bear Bryant and the GQ article that got his family’s reality TV show temporarily canceled before Christian outcry forced A&E to reinstate the show.

In case you forgot what he said last year that caused all the ruckus, here’s the statement: “It seems like, to me, a vagina—as a man—would be more desirable than a man’s anus,” he told GQ. “That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.”

Nearly six months later, he’s still being asked about that article. He told AL.com: “I’m actually a nice man. I’m trying to help those poor souls and turn them to Jesus.”

In between discussions of football and squirrel and dumplings dishes, Robertson also got political.

“Hey, Alabama, whatever you do, register to vote for this presidential election,” Robertson said. “Go vote for the House and the Senate, too. Vote this ungodly bunch out of Washington, D.C.”

What’s your take on Robertson’s comments? Is he, as some say, a prophetic voice to this generation or is he doing more harm than good for his bold comments?
