A new app, released in March—just in time for Easter—aims to assist parents in leading their children to the gospel.

EasterHunt is an interactive family devotional app for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. The app is designed for kids ages 2-10, and its goal is to help parents lead their children to the gospel by using simple games and devotionals.

EasterHunt works by allowing the child to play a game where he or she must find and then open an egg to receive a “treasure.” The treasure that pops out of the egg is a children’s illustration that gives a visual theme for the devotional for that day. Then parents can take over and guide their child’s heart by reading the devotional as your child listens.

The app developers hope parents will use EasterHunt “to take time to connect with their children in a fun, but meaningful way this Easter.”

Designed to be used as a tool to engage children in the Easter story, app developers warn that the key is the parent remain in control. Every game is designed for a 4-year-old to play, but they are also engaging enough for older children.

The games are meant to be played well within the attention span of a toddler, which enables parents to teach their children about the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ using the devotional as a launching point.

Written in a narrative style to capture young children’s attention, the devotionals enable parents to stay in control of the gospel discussion.

One user wrote in a review: “We have enjoyed what we have seen so far with this app, and we look forward to the coming days leading up to Easter. Our kids love the graphics and games, and the devotion attached is the perfect way to bring Christ to the focus of Easter!”

EasterHunt can also be used in a Sunday school classroom by connecting the iPad to a television.
