Jesus spoke many parables in the Bible, amazing the crowds that followed Him. Pure Flix Entertainment’s Meant to Be is a story with which Jesus could certainly dazzle—and teach—a modern day audience.

The film, released by Pure Flix Tuesday on DVD, is a right-to-life parable that could sear the heart of even the most staunch abortion advocate.

The movie chronicles the life of Nathan Burr (played by Bradley Dorsey), a young man who grew up in a foster home and, after losing his job, sets out to write a novel while searching for his birth mother. Throughout the film, Nathan comes to grips with his mother’s rejection, but continues his quest to meet her face to face.

Along the way, he encounters hotel housekeeper Mave (Della Reese of Touched by An Angel) and Shelly (Kristen Renton), a girl who also had been abandoned by her birth mother. Mave and Shelly provide Nathan not only with friendship, but sound advice during his quest.

The movie also follows the story of Linda Dixon (Erika Eleniak), a social worker who encounters Tori (Erin Sossoman), a pregnant teen who is wavering about a decision as to whether or not to keep her unborn child. Fighting her own demons from the past, Linda does everything she can to convince Tori to keep the child and not to make a mistake that she might regret in the future.

Dean Cain (Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman) rounds out the cast as Linda’s husband, who tries to support her but wonders why she continues to seek absolution for something “God forgave her for years ago.”

Nathan eventually discovers a terrible secret that redefines his life, resulting in a somewhat surprise ending to the film.

In the genre of the recent film October Baby, Meant to Be sends another clear message to abortion advocates—and those women who have either had an abortion or are thinking about having one—that God has plans for his children and that He is the God of a second chance.

Meant to Be is a must-see for all women who have been through a similar experience, and for young men who are involved in those experiences.
