What happens when an American blogger takes a stand for Christ while being interviewed on a talk show in Cairo, Egypt? The movie Infidel, premiering in theaters today and starring Jim Caviezel and Claudia Karvan, shows what can happen, as the main character is kidnapped, taken to Iran and charged with espionage. His life is threatened and rescue efforts stalled because of political implications.

In an interview with Mike Huckebee, Caviezel, who first became known for his portrayal of Jesus in Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ, said he chose to portray the lead character because he stands up for what he believes, an attribute not often seen in today’s “cancel culture.”

“The movie has a very strong Christian worldview as the main character clearly proclaims the gospel of Jesus Christ on Egyptian TV and would rather die than denounce his faith that Jesus is God,” according to a review posted at Movieguide®. In the movie, Scripture is referenced, and the main character is shown talking with God and involved in a loving marriage.

During the Huckebee interview, Caviezel said he prepared for his Infidel role by reading about the Feb. 15, 2015 beheading of 21 Christian martyrs in Libya at the hand of ISIS.

“They put their love for Jesus Christ above their own lives,” he said.

Infidel is based on a composite of true-life persecutions Christians have faced in the Middle East. During the interview, Caviezel said the movie has a timely message for American Christians, who have been shut out of churches by state officials through COVID-19 executive orders.

The political action thriller is rated R for violence and strong language. It was written and directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh. To view the trailer, visit this link.

“It’s a powerful movie you need to see,” said Huckabee.

Next up on the big screen for Caviezel and cast is The Resurrection of the Christ, the sequel to The Passion of the Christ. Again directed by Mel Gibson, the new project is expected out April 7, 2022, according to IMDb. {eoa}
