Oscar winner Helen Hunt (As Good As It Gets, Twister, What Women Want) stars as the real-life Kathy “Coach Brez” Bresnahan in the new film The Miracle Season, releasing this weekend from LD Entertainment. The story centers on the true story of Caroline “Line” Found, a star volleyball player whose young life was cut short, sending her friends and family searching for answers and direction.

For Hunt, she was first drawn to the role as an opportunity to work together with director Sean McNamara again after the film Soul Surfer. On set, however, she quickly realized the gravity of the inspirational drama.

“It wasn’t really until we started shooting, and then it wasn’t really until I was standing on that floor with these women around me that I went, ‘This is exactly the movie I should be making,’ a movie about when the unimaginable happens, what do you do?,” she said.

Caroline’s young life, which greatly impacted her Iowa City West high school classmates and local community, continues to leave a legacy, one that will now go far beyond the community when the film releases.

“By all accounts, this is a movie about an extraordinary young woman and the qualities she must have had are exactly the ones I needed to be around. So it was really perfect.”

Although some parts of the film are tragic, Hunt added that the set was anything but dreary because of the young actresses playing the volleyball team, which included Danika Yoresh as Caroline, Erin Moriarty as Kelley Fliehler and even her daughter, Makena.

“We had 15 joy machines,” she said. “I honestly have to say there was not a bummer in the group, which is rare. They are awesome young women and we are still in touch.”

The Miracle Season also stars William Hurt as Ernie Found, Caroline’s father. It releases from LD Entertainment on April 6, 2018.
