Grammy Winner Says This About TD Jakes’ Pointed Critiques

T.D. Jakes’ heart-to-heart with the Braxton family drew myriad responses, from tears to cheers, but Tamar Braxton says she’s grateful for his words.

“Bishop T.D. Jakes came on and he gave us our life,” Braxton says in an interview.

When the megachurch pastor sat down with Tamar and her sisters, he didn’t mince words regarding their attitudes and actions.

“You’re spoiled. You’re flat-out spoiled,” T.D. Jakes told the family. “I deal with people who have real problems—people who are losing their limbs, who need a kidney transplant—and those families go through that with more dignity than you can go through who stood on stage?”

But that was what the family needed to hear, Tamar said. Along with his admonishments, Jakes passed along words of wisdom.

“The best thing he told me was stop looking for people to clap for you,” Tamar says. “Clap for yourself, meaning be proud of yourself, be proud of your accomplishments.”
