The Washington Commanders scored a 12-7 win over the Chicago Bears Thursday night, but the big story centered on Brian Robinson, Jr., who scored the game-winning touchdown.

Robinson’s powerful showing for his team would have been commended by fans on a normal night, but this was an especially notable moment, because it was Robinson’s first NFL touchdown, coming just two months after he was shot.

The NFL rookie running back was attacked Aug. 28 in a busy area of Washington, D.C., after being approached by two teens looking to rob him. He was shot during the clash, with bullets going through his right glute and right knee.

The potentially deadly encounter put his football career in question and forced him into a difficult recovery.

“That was probably the lowest point I’ve ever been in my life,” Robinson recently admitted.

But less than two months later, he was back on the field. After the Thursday game, Robinson detailed his tough journey to recovery, credited his team for helping him, and praised the Lord.

“My momma [was] just telling me God’s gotta plan for me and I had to trust it … it was tough,” he said. “I truly believe God’s got a bigger purpose for me. And I’ve just gotta live through Him every day.”
