Amid the suffering and persecution the church faces, a new movement is calling for unified, global worship to see the name of Jesus Christ lifted up throughout the earth.
The first annual Global Day of Worship, a day that will unify many denominations within the body of Christ, will be held on Friday.
“Worship is really what we are all created for,” said Eunice Barruel, founder of GDW and New Strength International Ministries. “There is really nothing else. My heart for this day is to see Jesus lifted up, for the bride to come together, and for us to realize we are no longer just sons or daughters, but we are His bride.”
Barruel, a Regent University alumna, continued: “One of the things the Lord told me was, ‘Eunice, the journey into my heart is so much larger than the journey around the world. The depth and the width and the heights of my love for you, that’s the journey—that’s the travel that I want you to take. Don’t worry about the rest of the world. Don’t worry about who around the world will participate, because you’re throwing me a party—and it doesn’t really matter if it’s fillet mignon or potato chips that you’re serving. If they love me they’ll come.”
For one hour, from 7 to 8 p.m., in each time zone, “a wave of worship and adoration across the nations will unite us as one body,” the website says. Utilizing 24 time zones, this will create 24 hours of worship. For 24 hours, Web visitors will have the unique and powerful opportunity to see how numerous churches express worship in their own languages and venues.
Regent University is one U.S. partner participating in the Global Day of Worship. The event will wrap up Regent’s Global Week of Worship.
“Regent University desires to lift up the name of Jesus and bring glory to the Father through the power and leading of the Holy Spirit,” President Carlos Campo said in a university proclamation.
Each day of the week has represented something different: Monday was the Day of Repentance; Tuesday was the Day of Service; Wednesday was the Day of Consecration; Thursday marked the Day of Intercession.
The university has held events throughout the week, including communion with Pat Robertson and a special chapel with Rev. Samuel Rodriguez.
Friday’s event will launch Regent’s new International Center for Worship and will host Andraé Crouch, recipient of nine Grammy awards, six GMA Dove awards and an Oscar nomination. Crouch will perform songs from his new album, The Journey.
Other artists include David M. Edwards, Aaron Keys, Le’ Andria Johnson and more. The event starts at 7 p.m. in Regent’s Communication & Performing Arts Center.
