Actress and former mixed martial artist Gina Carano has joined the ranks of the unemployed in the wake of her controversial social media posts, and the Twitterverse has not hesitated to express its opinion. Scores of angry fans are calling for the cancelation of the popular series’ Disney+ network with the trending hashtag #CancelDisneyPlus.

Carano has also been dropped by her talent agency, UTA, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Lucasfilm released a statement Wednesday night, its spokesperson saying, “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable,” per deadline.com.

Carano, who played bounty hunter Cara Dune on the first two seasons of the Disney+/Lucasfilm project, shared a now-deleted TikTok post that compared today’s political division to Nazi Germany, saying, “”Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?”

One of Carano’s Instagram posts, also deleted, featured a person with multiple masks covering their head and face with the caption “Meanwhile in California.”

“They have been looking for a reason to fire her for two months, and today was the final straw,” a source familiar with Lucasfilm’s thinking told The Hollywood Reporter. Sources have reached out to Carano’s representatives, but no official statement has been received.

Star Wars-based The Mandalorian, which debuted on Disney+ this past November, helped push the streaming service to new subscription highs, and Carano’s character became an instant fan favorite. But the tweets of the Las Vegas native, a graduate of the city’s Trinity Christian High School, also generated social media controversy. Now, the debate over her firing is also playing out on the popular platforms.

And numerous tweets included verification of canceled subscriptions like this one:

On Carano’s Facebook page, a commenter who says his family “mostly perished in Nazi concentration camps” speaks out in support of Carano:

“She got fired for making a stupid misplaced comment, which almost immediately she deleted as she realized she botched her message,” he writes. “Are we not allowed to say something boneheaded and take it back? I’d argue that Carano has no history of animosity to Jews or love for Nazis, quite the opposite. I hold no ill will to her, but I do hold ill will to Disney for their whiplash reaction to what was clearly a mistake.”

And more negative views appear on Twitter as well, the hashtag #FireCarano having appeared before the more recent ones in her support.
