Cindy Jacobs Calls ‘Reformation’ Prayer Day

While countless Americans across the nation are trick-or-treating on Oct. 31, thousands of Christians will be on their knees interceding for the country.

Some 2,000 intercessors are expected to participate in Reformation Day, a prayer event sponsored by Generals International. Ministry co-founder Cindy Jacobs said the meeting, to be held at Christ for the Nations Institute (CFNI) in Dallas, is a response to what she sensed was an “urgent” call to pray.

“Believers across America are deeply concerned about the state of our nation,” Jacobs said. “Prayer warriors are writing and calling us daily to warn that they feel we are on the verge of something catastrophic in scope coming to the nation.”

She said intercessors would pray about pressing issues facing the U.S. “We’re going to pray for a reformation back to a biblical worldview in our nation, against terrorist attacks, for the economy [and for] the state of the nation,” Jacobs said.

Organizers chose Oct. 31 for the event because it marks the day in 1517 when Martin Luther tacked his “95 Theses” on the door of a Roman Catholic Church in Wittenberg, Germany. The move revolutionized the church by sparking the Protestant Reformation.

In like manner, Jacobs said, “Oct. 31 is the day intercessors will place a theses on the door” of the nation.

CFNI director Adam McCain, Southwestern Assemblies of God University President Kermit Bridges and government leaders are expected to pray at the Reformation event, which runs from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Central. Worship will be led by Klaus Kuehn, Marco Barrientos and Gabriel Allred. Hundreds of area students also are expected to participate, and the event will be streamed live online.

Jacobs said many believers are concerned about the state of the U.S. economic system. But she said several prophetic leaders feel another economic shaking is coming.

“When I prayed and asked the Lord if it could be stopped, I felt He said it can’t be stopped, but it can be diminished,” Jacobs said. “Right now God wants us to have a great awakening.”

In a prophetic bulletin sent this week, Rick Joyner, founder of MorningStar Ministries and a respected voice in prophetic circles, said people have asked him if an economic catastrophe can be avoided. “Personally, I don’t believe so,” Joyner said.

“I am not a financial adviser … but just in the natural [realm], things are fundamentally scary,” he added. “There are some potential dangers in the market.”

Prophetic leaders say terrorist attacks have been averted around the country because of intercession, and they point to a foiled terror plot discovered in Dallas last month as proof of the power of prayer.

“We really believe God is going to expose more terrorist attacks,” Jacobs said. “There are sleeper cells all across the nation … and we’re going to be praying about that.”

Jacobs points to other problems that have created an urgent need for prayer. She said the new hate crimes bill that President Obama signed into law Wednesday represents a sad day in the nation.

“We break biblical laws over and over again, calling good evil and evil good,” she said. “God said He would judge nations. How many ways can you do anti-biblical things?”

Jacobs had considered waiting a year to launch Reformation Day but said she is calling Americans to pray now because she believes the nation is in crisis. She hopes one day people will trade in Halloween celebrations to hold prayer meetings every Oct. 31.

“We’re not for the donkey or the elephant; we’re for whoever stands up,” Jacobs said. “This is not the time to water down the message. … We definitely feel the Holy Spirit stirring, and we are very concerned for our nation. There is a feeling of sobriety in our country.”
