BREAKING: Facebook Bans Trump for Two Years, Will Reassess ‘Risk to Public Safety’

Facebook has decided to suspend former President Donald J. Trump’s account for a period of two years, the social media giant announced today.

“Given the gravity of the circumstances that led to Mr. Trump’s suspension, we believe his actions constituted a severe violation of our rules which merit the highest penalty available under the new enforcement protocols. We are suspending his accounts for two years, effective from the date of the initial suspension on January 7 this year,” Facebook announced.

The former president’s account has been suspended since January after the Jan. 6 assault on the Capitol. The company suspended Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts over posts in which he allegedly praised praise the actions of the rioters, saying his actions posed too great a risk to remain on the social media platforms. Trump was also suspended from other Big Tech platforms including Twitter (which has since made its ban permanent), YouTube and Snapchat.

“When the suspension is eventually lifted, there will be a strict set of rapidly escalating sanctions that will be triggered if Mr. Trump commits further violations in future, up to and including permanent removal of his pages and accounts,” the statement from Facebook said.

Trump issued a response statement reported by multiple outlets, calling the decision an “insult to the record-setting 75M people, plus many others, who voted for us in the 2020 Rigged Presidential Election,” adding, “They shouldn’t be allowed to get away with this censoring and silencing, and ultimately, we will win. Our Country can’t take this abuse anymore!” {eoa}
