Evangelist: You Can’t Say You’re Christian if You Don’t Worship Jesus

Evangelist Chris Mikkelson says he used to work with Jehovah’s Witnesses doing masonry, and he learned that they neither believe Jesus is God, nor that Jesus should be worshipped. But if people miss the reality that Jesus was more than a prophet—that He is actually part of the Trinity, and therefore God—then they’re not truly Christians.

“You cannot say you’re a Christian and not worship Jesus. It doesn’t work that way,” Mikkelson says. “Jesus is Lord. … We see it all the way through Scripture, so many times where Jesus was doing miracles or where Jesus came and He said to somebody, ‘Your sins are forgiven.’ And the Pharisees said to Him, ‘Who is this who can forgive sins? Only God can forgive sins.’ And that’s the point, my friends: Only God can forgive your sins.”

Nowhere in Scripture does Jesus rebuke anyone for worshipping Him, Mikkelson says on the Salvation Today podcast on the Charisma Podcast Network. This is unlike other passages in the Bible such as Acts 10:26, where Peter stops a man from worshipping him, saying, “Stand up. I myself am a man.” And this further proves Christ’s deity.

“Those who were in the boat came and they worshipped Jesus,” Mikkelson says, referencing Matthew 14:33. “And they said, ‘Truly, you are the Son of God.’ And in that moment, Jesus never rebuked them and said, ‘Hey, wait a minute, don’t worship Me. You’re not supposed to worship Me. You can’t do that.’ No, Jesus didn’t correct them at all. He received worship. He knew that only God should be worshipped, yet He received worship there that day.”
